If You Like Radiohead, You’re Smart. But If You Like Beyonce, You’re Stupid. (Sorry for the Clickbait, But…)
Patrick Charles over at my sister publication Geeks&Beats reports on the results of a study comparing SAT scores to musical tastes. He quotes from Consequence of Sound:
‘For the last several years, a software application writer by the name of Virgil Griffith has charted musical tastes based on the average SAT scores of various college institutions. For example, students attending the California Institute of Technology have an average SAT score of 1520. By looking at Facebook to determine the most popular (or — “liked”) band of students at Cal Tech, Griffith was able to conclude that Radiohead really truly is music for smart people.’
He then links us to this diagram called Musicthatmakesyoudumb. Note the plottings of Nickelback, All-American Rejects and Beyonce. And the Foo Fighters didn’t fare well, either. Can we draw any meaningful correlations from this data? Probably not. But it’s still useful for making fun of Nickelback.
