New Alberta Ballet performance set to the Hip

In their own way, the Tragically Hip pushed boundaries through the course of an incredible 30-year career. From subtle changes to bold shifts in sound, lyrics and performance, they kept fans on their toes in many ways.

Why stop now?

The Hip provide the soundtrack for a new performance from
the Alberta Ballet. Called All of Us,
the show includes songs from the band’s entire history.

Better yet, the Alberta Ballet is taking the show on the
road next year.

All of Us tells the story of two warring clans who battle to inherit the earth to redesign its future anew,” the band says.

Jean Grand-Maître, the performance’s choreographer and the company’s artistic director, took inspiration from films like Blade Runner and Mad Max and has set the story in a dystopian future. Dancers will move and tell the story using some 20 Hip songs through the course of the performance.

“I saw it twice and found it exhilarating,” said Rob Baker. “We are thrilled that the Alberta Ballet is taking the show out nationally.”

Tickets are available starting Wednesday, December 19, at 10 a.m. local time.

Gord Downie was a fantastic, spirited and uninhibited dancer in addition to being a tremendously talented lyricist. How fitting, then, for a professional ballet company to honour him and his musical brothers in such away.
