New York’s The Falling Birds yield a raspy voiced folk-rock sound that’s full of highs and lows, brassy harmonica and the kind of story-esc lyrics that bring to mind someone like Bright Eyes.
Sounds like: “I’m working, I labor, I can’t afford no houses with great hallways, but always, I try to make you feel loved in the small ways.”

Artist: Jay Malinowski & The Deadcoast “Sloop John B”
Album: Martel
This one’s a beauty. Featuring a full, lush horn section, marching band drums, killer harmonies and an amendment written by former Bedouin Soundclash frontman Jay Malinwoski, this rendition of the Beach Boys’ classic has an almost cinematic quality to it and can be found on the band’s latest album Martel, which dropped back in February.
