Remember Mojo Nixon? You’ll Never Believe What He’s Doing Now
Mojo Nixon (sometimes with his partner, Skid Roper) was a culty sort of alt-rockabilly/psychobilly singer who toured constantly through the 80s and early 90s. The man was a joy to interview–he was always friendly and funny–and along with Billy Bragg, he was one of my favourite one-man-band sorts.
You remember songs like this, right?
Whatever happened to Mojo? He discovered NASCAR, that’s what. From Fox Sports:
These days, Nixon lives in San Diego and hosts three shows for SIRIUS/XM radio, including a NASCAR show called “Manifold Destiny.”
[…]
“What got me hooked to NASCAR? My daddy, Big Daddy Nixon out of Parkton, N.C. was a giant NASCAR fan,” said Mojo. “And he took me to Hillsborough, Okefenokee — whatever it’s called (actually Occoneechee Speedway) and I saw Richard Petty race in the dirt. Richard Petty and Wendell Scott — Wendell Scott’s from my hometown of Danville, Va. — and I’ve been a NASCAR fan ever since. That was 1967 or ’68.”
I remember Mojo guest-hosting on MuchMusic a few times… he was REALLY good. Very fun, quick-witted and engaging. Doesn't surprise me then that he is hosting something like this.
He also does a show on SIRIUS XM's Raw Dog Comedy station called "Lying Cocksuckers"… as you would guess it's political with a slightly left lean. Can't remember the day it's on…
We asked for Mojo Nixon/ They said he don't work here/ We said if you don't got Mojo Nixon then your store could use some fixin!
