The Most Honest Music Conference Press Release Ever
You have to admire the candor by the organizers of Sappyfest. If I wasn’t going to be out of the country that weekend, I’d go–just because of this press release.
\ SAPPYFEST VIII ///
— Don’t Get Your Hopes Up —
\ LINEUP ADDITIONS ///
Sappyfest is very happy to announce a few late additions to its lineup that include Montreal’s subversive pop duo CAMP, Halifax hip-hop crew Weirdo Click, local garage-psych gesticulators Kappa Chow, Scottish folk darling Pictish Trail, and the slinky funk of Montreal’s Karneef. Highly disappointing is the cancellation of both TOPS and Blackout Beach, two well regarded and skilled groups who will be dearly missed.
\ WHY NOWHERE? CONFERENCE ///
With unprecedented support from FACTOR Canada and the New Brunswick Department of Wellness, Tourism and Culture through their Strategic Initiatives Program, Sappyfest is happy to announce the development of Why Nowhere? the festival’s first attempt at a conference. Running in conjunction to the festival, Why Nowhere? focuses on professional development and the best practices for small festival producers and rural presenters, with an emphasis on networking, knowledge sharing, partnerships, and exchange. It’s the festival’s hope that the conference is a casual, community oriented affair in the spirit of other Sappyfest programming, and as far from a standard music industry event as possible.
• To bring together a variety of professional presenters working in rural areas and/or on small festivals, to discuss best practices and opportunities for partnerships and project development.
• To showcase a variety of Canadian talent for a diverse group of international, national, and regional presenters.
• To create networking opportunities for artists, media, and industry representatives in a unique environment.
• To contextualize rural practices, destination festivals, and programming trends within a critical framework.
SappyFest is very excited to be bringing in a variety of festival producers from around the world and across the country. A complete list of delegates and the conference schedule is available here: http://sappyfest.com/why-nowhere-conference/
**** PLEASE NOTE! THERE WILL BE ABSOLUTELY NO DISCUSSION OF FLAILING INDUSTRY ATTEMPTS TO CIRCUMVENT THE LOSS OF REVENUES AS A RESULT OF DIGITAL DOWNLOADING!
Sappyfest would like to publicly acknowledge the gracious support of FACTOR, The Department of Canadian Heritage, The Canada Music Fund, and the New Brunswick Department of Wellness, Culture and Tourism.
