Tragically Hip fans are throwing another benefit in memory of Gord

Come February 2, Tragically Hip tribute band Strictly Hip will teaming up with Rob Ferreira (formerly of Courage for Gord site) to kick off a new effort called FamilyBand Concerts. This is the first of what’s intended to be a series of shows.

Each evening will feature a performance from Strictly Hip in addition to a territory acknowledgment and prayer of some kind from a First Nations person or group — this time, the prayer is from Jason “Rocky” Carter (also called Bear Standing Tall) followed by the Ashunyung Singers drumming group from Lake Simcoe performing a traditional honour song.

So far, 250 tickets of a maximum 500 have been sold. Tickets can be purchased through the Horseshoe Tavern’s website.

Fundraising items will include specially designed t-shirts in addition to photos from longtime Hip photographers David Bastedo and Richard Beland. Also up for auction will be a hat inspired by the ones Gord wore during the last tour, also designed by Karyn Ruiz of Lilliput Hats.

Proceeds will go to the Downie Wenjack Fund. Details on their Facebook page.
