A Tragically Hip musical? Yes–and they’re looking for cast members

The Mirvish organization has just announced a new musical that will use the music of The Tragically Hip.

Called It’s a Good Life If You Don’t Weaken, the production, based on a book by Brian Hill and Ahmed Moneka, will tell the story of an issue-laden family living in Toronto’s Kensington Market. A ton of Hip hits will be incorporated.

The musical will have its world premiere in 2026 at Theatre Aquarius in Hamilton. The Hip has this to say: “Some of the country’s best theatre makers have come together to create a show that honours our music. It’s exciting to see our songs interpreted in a new way that will continue to connect audiences while supporting a compelling story for the theatrical stage.”

Who will star? No idea. Casting will begin with an open call on Sunday, March 9 at The Creative School Chrysalis at Toronto Metropolitan University starting at 9 am. If you’re interested, go here.
