And the winner of The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame fan vote is…

Phish. Once jam band fans get motivated, they’re unstoppable, apparently. Some 326,000 people cast their ballots for them to win the populist race. They’ were followed by Bad Company, Billy Idol, Cyndi Lauper, Joe Cocker, Soundgarden, and Chubby Checker.

Phish got more votes than the bottom four artists combined (White Stripes, Outkast, Oasis, and Maná.)

Here are the final numbers for the 2025 fan voting for The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Keep in mind that by finishing first, Phish gets exactly one (1) vote thrown in with the 1,200+ other votes by Hall members. Nothing is weighted in any way.

However, if history is any indication, the top vote-getter with fans almost always gets inducted by the entire committee. Since The Hall started this populist thing, the number one act has made it into the hall 11 out of 12 times. The only time this didn’t work was in 2020 when the Dave Matthews Band received over one million fan votes–three times what Phish got–the DMB didn’t get voted in.

At least Mariah Carey finished out of the running. But it’s unbelievable that Joy Division + New Order STILL isn’t in The Hall.

  1. Phish: 329,281 votes
  2. Bad Company: 280,725 votes
  3. Billy Idol: 260,416 votes
