Green Day has a new American idiot: Elon Musk

I’m starting to get the feeling that Trump V2.0 is going to result in some pretty angry and aggressive music. At least I hope so.

First out of the gate is Green Day who played their first show in South Africa on Sunday (January 19). During a performance of “American Idiot,” Billie Joe Armstrong made a lyrical change. Instead of “I’m not part of the redneck agenda,” he sang “I’m not part of the Elon agenda.” Note that Elon Musk was born in Pretoria, South Africa.

This isn’t the first time Green Day has gone after Elmo and MAGA. They’ve substituted “MAGA” for “redneck” in the past. Elmo wrote on Twitter: “Green Day goes from raging against the machine to milquetoastedly raging for it.”

Mike Dirnt responded this way: “Elon Musk actually is the machine. I can’t take anything else from that. He’s not shy about saying stupid s**t on the internet. Whatever. The song’s twenty years old, and we’re Green Day. What did you expect?”
