Green Day: The Movie? Coming soon.

Billie Joe Armstrong has wanted to do some kind of Green Day movie since before the release of American Idiot. He might finally get his chance.

Live Nation is working with Green Day on a comedy roadtrip movie inspired by the band’s early experiences. The working title is New Years Rev and will tell the story of three buddies who hightail it for LA because they somehow think they’ve been offered an opening slot for a Green Day gig. They were not. Comedy ensues.

The pitch is as follows: “Their roadtrip is a rowdy and mischievous jaunt across the country filled with adventures, based on the exploits of Green Day and their years of living in a tour van.”

The three friends will be played by Mason Thames, Kylr Coffman, and Ryan Foust. Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey from The Office are also in the film. The Green Day guys are serving as executive producers and consultants.

Production has begun in Oklahoma. No release date has been announced.
