In incredibly shocking news, Fyre Festival 2 has been canceled. Or postponed. Or something.
Gee, who didn’t see this coming?
After months of incompetence, gaslighting, dodgy promises, and utter disinterest from people who have more than two functioning neurons, Billy McFarland’s Fyre Festival 2–the sequel to the original 2017 event that saw him go to jail for fraud–is not going to happen as scheduled. Gates were supposed to open on May 30 for a weekend of…something on the Mexican island of Isla Mujeres in the seaside town of Playa Del Carmen somewhere cool.
Well, no. No permits, no line-up, no local government support, no direction whatsoever–although some idiots with too much money have forked out the mininum ticket prices of US$1,400. And that’s just the bare-bones-basics GA ticket. Word is that some paid US$1.1 million for some OTT VIP package. Oh, and no refunds, apparently. It’s right there in the ticket purchase agreement.
In other words, Fyre 2 is NOT real.
A note was sent to customers yesterday (April 16): “The event has been postponed and a new date will be announced. We have issued you a refund. Once the new date is announced, at that time, you can repurchase if it works for your schedule.”
And there’s more: “FYRE Festival 2 is still on. We are vetting new locations and will announce our host destination soon. Our priorities remain unchanged: delivering an unforgettable, safe, and transparent experience.”
Yeah, no. Did we not all say we sold you so?
