How do you consume music? This is of great interest to everyone in the business of making, selling, and distributing music around the world. It’s always a good idea to keep up to date on what’s happening–and to compare study results against your own experience.

The first takeaway for everyone with this new Edison Research “Infinite Dial” study is that 73% of Americans aged 12 or older listen to some kind of online audio every week. That works out to about 210 million people.

Going deeper, we learn:

  • 35% listen to Spotify (up from 34% a year ago)
  • YouTube Music listening has gone up from 23% to 28%.
  • Listening Apple Music listening accounts for 16% while Amazon Music has 15%.
  • YouTube is the most-used service for accessing podcasts (33% vs. 26% for Spotify and just 14% for Apple Podcasts.)
  • And this is interesting: The use of Facebook is again on the rise. According to the survey, 66% of American are now on Facebook regularly, up from 61% in 2023.
