Lady Gaga to Get $2.5 Million to Play Private New Year’s Eve Gig
The hottest New Year’s Eve party on the planet takes plays at the end of a steep road fronting a beach called Gouveneur on the island of St. Bart’s. That’s where Russian billionaire (and owner of Chelsea FC) Roman Abramovich has his 80-acre compound.
His NYE’s parties are legendary. Hundreds of A-listers (George Lucas, Martha Stewart, Jay Z and Beyonce, Diddy) fly/yacht in from around the planet to be there. The fireworks display at midnight is rumoured to cost somewhere north of $5 million. And Roman always hires a top-tier artist to provide the music.
A couple of years ago, it was the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Prince has showed up. Last year, it was Kings of Leon. And this December 31, it looks like the music will be provided by Lady Gaga.
That’s a bit of a change given Roman’s personal musical tastes, but the nod to Gaga is a favor to his partner, Daria “Dasha” Zhukova, who is a major fan.
According to one source, Roman is going to pay Gaga a million pounds ($1.5 million-ish CAD) over and above her normal rate to compensate for the, er, difficulties, of playing a show in St. Bart’s.
Yes, the poor thing.
