More than 100 Canadian artists have signed an anti-Pierre Poilievre open letter
With our federal election coming up Monday (April 28), the rhetoric and hype is starting to peak and a sizeable portion of the population believes that Pierre Poilievre will lead to a Trumpization of Canada.
More than 100 Canadian artists have signed an open letter that opposes Poilievre and the Conservatives. Entitled Why We Must Stop Pierre Poilievre from Becoming Prime Minister, it warns against cuts in arts funding, cuts to the CBC, cuts to public services, climate action, reproductive rights, and more. I quote:
“We want art, culture and music to unite us and to help us tap into the abundance of creativity, imagination, and ingenuity we have as a country so we can invest in rebuilding crumbling infrastructure, addressing the climate emergency and making a more equitable Canada,” the letter reads. “To do that we need to elect progressive leaders who respect the arts and culture and want to use this moment to unite us. We urge Canadians to think critically, act collectively, and raise their voices for a more compassionate, inclusive, and sustainable Canada.”
What do they suggest? Using strategic voting tools like Cooperate for Canada, Vote Well, and Leadnow.
