Neil Peart’s brother dies of the same cancer

It’s been about five years since Rush’s Neil Peart died of glioblastoma, the same virulent brain cancer that took Gord Downie. And to add even more tragedy, Neil’s brother Danny has died from the same disease.

Danny was diagnosed about 18 months ago. He died Sunday (March 16). His death was announced by his sister, Nancy Peart Burkholder.

“On this dreary Sunday it is with great sadness that we share that this past Thursday evening we lost our third Peart man and 2nd brother, Danny, after his year and a half battle with glioblastoma (brain cancer). Danny shared our amazing Peart traits that all of our men carried, a true gentleman with a kind heart and generous spirit.”

Like his brother, Danny was a writer with several books to his credit. His most recent was Stark Naked in The Laundromat. Neil wrote the forward.

Here’s Danny doing a reading.
