Ongoing History Daily: Deaths onstage, part 2

Last time, we looked at the early history of performers dying onstage. Here are a few more modern examples of musicians who never made it back to the dressing room.

In 1980, Papa Dee Allen, a founding member of the band War, collapsed onstage and died of a brain aneurysm.

Tiny Tim, the novelty singer, had a fatal heart attack while leaving the stage in 1996.

In 1999, Mark Sandman, the bass player and lead vocalist for the band Morphine, collapsed and died of a heart attack during a performance in Italy.

Ty Longley, the guitarist for Great White, died during the horrible Station Nightclub fire in 2003.

Dimebag Darrell, ex of Pantera, was murdered onstage a fan while playing with his band Damageplan in December 2004.

And I’m not done yet. More next time.
