The man who went on a stabbing spree at a Taylor Swift-themed dance class for kids has been sentenced
From all the accounts I’ve heard, the attack 18-year-old Axel Rudakubana carried out on a bunch of children who just wanted to dance to Taylor Swift songs is beyond horrific. The attack took all of twelve minutes at a place called Hart Space in Southport, England, last July 29.
Not only did he murder three girls under the age of ten; the little girls were hit so hard with the 20cm knife that bones were broken) and injured many more (some severe), he also planned to use ricin (a hideously lethal nerve agent) and just happened to have an Al-Qaeda training manual lying round.
Rudakubana first pleaded not guilty but then changed his mind for 16 charges. Three murder, ten attempted murder, and three charges for the ricin possession. He’s been sentenced to 52 years in prison. He couldn’t be sentenced longer because he was nine days shy of his 18th birthday when he carried out the attack. Still, this is the longest jail sentence ever given to someone his age in modern UK history.
There were calls to frame this as a terrorist attack, but for some reason, that’s now how things played out in court. Rudakubana will spend the rest of his life in jail.
