The Ottawa Senators and the Winnipeg Jets will host a Tragically Hip night later this month.

Whenever I read something about Canadian becoming the 51st state, being “absorbed,” “annexed,” and having the border “erased,” a red mist descends over my eyes. Not on my watch.

The good news is that the swells of Canadian patriotism prompted by Donald Trump’s imperialist insanity keep coming. And this plan by the Ottawa Senators is way better than booing “The Star-Spangled Banner.”

On February 26, the Senators will host the Winnipeg Jets and the game will feature a tribute to The Tragically Hip. What will that include?

  • A ceremonial puck drop by Gord Downie’s brothers, Patrick and Mike.
  • Intermission entertainment will come from Road Apples, a Hip tribute band.
  • The Senators’ official charity will reveal a “meaningful gift” to the Gord Downie & Chanie Wenjack Fund.

Here’s more from the Sens.
