Today is World Radio Day 2025

As someone who has worked in the business for almost 44 years, radio is a big part of my life and I daresay my identity. I will always love and support the oldest of all mass media.

Today is World Radio Day 2025, an official UNESCO event. Since 2012, UN/UNESCO member states have celebrated the importance of radio broadcasting when it comes to keeping the world connected. I quote:

“Radio contributes to the achievement of its international objectives by supporting populations through climate disasters such as tropical storms and floods. It helps with the dissemination of fact-based information, listeners’ voices, and dedicated radio shows.

“To all radio professionals and volunteers, everywhere in the world, UNESCO salutes your daily work and your commitment to our future.”

This year’s event focuses on radio and climate change–timely, considering how radio was a big part of helping LA through its horrible wildfires. Radio also assists in times of weather emergencies like hurricanes, tornados, snowstorms, and other violent natural events.

Broadcast radio is free and available almost everywhere. This world would be worse off without it. Read more here.
